TIFF Mixed Raster Content (MRC) conforming to RFC 2301

Mixed Raster Content (MRC) is a process to reduce the size of raster images. It is well known since PDF/A is used to archive scanned documents. However, it has been used and standardized in RFC 2301 for TIFF files earlier.

Our TIFF Suite now supports single and multi page files conforming to RFC 2301. The compression tool separates color or graysscale pages into their background, foreground and mask, applies downsampling and suitable compression algorithms. If the OCR tool has been applied to the page before that then the segmentation information from the OCR engine is used to separate text segments from image segments and compress them into separate layers. The TIFF file can then be converted into a PDF/A file using the appropriate tool from the suite.
